A weekend at Playtime Casino Hanover and an online casino account are two separate things, governed by separate rules. This page sets out Ontario's rules for online play plainly, without the casino floor mixed in.

The rules
How Ontario runs online casinos
Regulated online gambling in Ontario began on April 4, 2022. It is conducted and managed by iGaming Ontario and regulated by the AGCO. For a private online casino to be legal in Ontario, it needs two things. The first is registration with the AGCO; the second is an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. Regulated sites are listed at igamingontario.ca.
OLG.ca is different from the private sites. It belongs to OLG, the provincial agency, as its online casino.
Meeting the age rule is only part of it. To play online, a person must be 19 or older and physically in Ontario at the time. Someone driving in for the weekend from Kincardine or Guelph faces the same two conditions as a Hanover resident.

Stepping away from online sites
Through BetGuard (betguard.ca), a person can block themselves from all regulated Ontario online gambling sites at once, OLG.ca among them. It has been operated by iGaming Ontario since May 14, 2026. The available lengths are 6 months, 1 year or 5 years, or else a custom term the person picks.
It stops at the screen. BetGuard does not cover land-based casinos, so it has no effect at the casino door on 5th Street. For casinos, OLG's My PlayBreak bars a person from every Ontario casino for 3 or 6 months or for 1 to 5 years. A casino break cannot be ended early.
This guide
Where the guide's money comes from
The Sideroad is an independent guide and does not accept bets. Only the home page carries paid links, and each one is labelled Ad. There is a menu button, a block just under the first screen and another close to the end. All three point to a single private online casino partner, which pays the guide a commission. That partner may change and is never named on any page.
These links are meant for adults who are physically in Ontario. The partner is not OLG.ca. It has no connection to Playtime Casino Hanover, Gateway Casinos or Hanover Raceway, nor to the AGCO, iGaming Ontario or OLG. No paid links appear on this page or on the other inner pages.
Questions
Short answers
Does a player have to be in Ontario to play online?
Yes, the player has to be present. Online play in Ontario is open only to people 19 or older who are physically within the province at the time.
Will a BetGuard sign-up stop entry at the door in Hanover?
BetGuard will not do that. It covers regulated Ontario online gambling sites, not land-based casinos. OLG's My PlayBreak is the program that covers Ontario casinos, and staff at a casino can sign a person up.
Where can a regulated online site be checked?
The list of regulated sites is at igamingontario.ca, run by iGaming Ontario.
Does the paid partner have any tie to the casino in Hanover?
The partner has no tie to Playtime Casino Hanover, Gateway Casinos or Hanover Raceway. It is not OLG.ca either, and none of them pays this guide.
